YaH is a joint project funded by Kirklees Council and is based at Avery Mews Care Home in Heckmondwike. The project is aimed at dementia sufferers and has two sessions per week – one ballet and one choir/musical theatre.
What to expect from the sessions:
Ballet is widely recognised for both its physical and cognitive benefits to those suffering with depreciative cognitive illnesses and TCD will offer a one-hour weekly ballet session for all abilities.
Singing has proven benefits to mood as well as cognitive improvement. The choir/musical theatre sessions will be focused on the participants, who will be singing popular songs from decades relevant to them. This will assist participants to recall well known songs from before depreciative cognitive illness became part of everyday life.
These sessions are open to the public at a cost of £2.50 per person. Carers can attend for free.
All session take place at Avery Mews Care Home, Railway Street, Heckmondwike WF16 0ND
